In forestry carbon projects, there are several project types. Depending on – for example – the situation of the project, the state of the land, the objectives, etc., we can implement the following:

Afforestación / Reforestación

Afforestation is the establishment of a forest in an area where there was no forest. Reforestation is the reestablishment of forest, either naturally or artificially. Because non-forest is converted into forest, it boosts their ability to store carbon.

Manejo forestal mejorado (IFM)

Improved Forest Management (IFM) projects are aimed at maintaining and increasing carbon storage in forests, and/or reducing carbon emissions from forestry activities. IFM activities enable the forest to grow as sustainably and productively as possible.

Avoided deforestation / REDD+

About 17% of the global greenhouse gas emissions is caused by degradation and loss of forests (from activities such as slash-and-burn agriculture and timber harvesting). So, the protection of our existing forests is essential to the reduction of carbon emissions around the world.

Mecanismo de Desarrollo Limpio  (MDL)

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), defined in Article 12 of the Protocol, allows a country with an emission-reduction or emission-limitation commitment under the Kyoto Protocol (Annex B Party) to implement an emission-reduction project in developing countries.
